Wuhan Hangu Expands PU Film Manufacturing and Customization Solutions for Diverse Applications

2026-09-03

By Wuhan Hangu Technology Technical & Content Team | September 2026

Polyurethane (PU) film is a versatile material used across a wide range of medical, wound care and skin protection products. For buyers and product developers, however, selecting a PU film is rarely just a question of choosing a roll width or thickness. Surface finish, transparency, adhesive performance, release liner, converting method and the requirements of the finished product can all influence the final specification.

At Wuhan Hangu Technology Co., Ltd., we have continued to expand our PU film manufacturing and converting capabilities to support customers developing different types of finished products.

Our current PU film options include both gloss and matte finishes. A commonly produced thickness is approximately 0.02 mm, while typical widths include 5 cm, 10 cm, 15 cm, 20 cm and 25 cm. Wider material can also be produced, with widths available up to 108 cm, depending on project requirements. Length and width can both be customized.

More Than One PU Film Structure

Different finished products require different material constructions.

For some projects, customers may require PU film as part of a structure that also includes an adhesive layer and release liner. Other projects may involve different converting or structural requirements.

Rather than limiting customers to one standard construction, Wuhan Hangu can develop different PU film structures according to the intended product design. Thickness, width, roll length, color, transparency, adhesive properties, release paper and printing can all be discussed as part of the customization process.

This flexibility is particularly important for B2B buyers because a material suitable for one finished product may not necessarily be the right configuration for another.

Supporting Different Downstream Applications

One reason we continue to develop our PU film capabilities is the diversity of products that can be built around this material.

Based on projects we have already worked with, PU film can be converted or incorporated into products including tattoo protection films, surgical films, wound dressings, IV dressings, beauty patches, baby waterproof patches, swimming protection patches and scar-care products.

The exact construction is not necessarily the same for every application. A buyer developing an IV dressing, for example, may have different requirements from a customer developing a tattoo protection film or waterproof skin patch.

This is why we prefer to discuss the intended finished product before confirming material specifications.

Transparent film materials are widely used in wound-care applications because suitable film constructions can combine flexibility, moisture-vapor transmission and water resistance. Established wound-care manufacturers similarly use breathable waterproof films in transparent and multilayer dressings.

In-House Manufacturing and Converting

An important part of our PU film development is that the work is not limited to sourcing finished rolls from another supplier.

Wuhan Hangu carries out PU film production and key converting processes in-house, including coating, laminating, slitting and die cutting. Our production facilities are equipped with automatic coating, laminating, slitting and die-cutting equipment.

Having these processes within our own manufacturing workflow gives our team more flexibility when working with customized specifications and downstream product requirements.

It also allows material specifications and converting requirements to be considered together rather than treating them as completely separate stages of product development.

Customization Starts with the Finished Product

For OEM projects, we do not believe that customization should simply mean changing the roll width.

Depending on the project, customers can discuss specifications including:

  • Film thickness and width
  • Roll length
  • Gloss or matte finish
  • Color and transparency
  • Adhesive properties
  • Release liner
  • Printing
  • Product structure

These options allow customers to develop the material around their intended finished product rather than adapting every project to one fixed specification.

For buyers who are still evaluating materials, existing samples can be provided free of charge, with freight paid by the customer. Available samples can normally be arranged within approximately 3–5 days. For customized projects, the timeline depends on the product and specification; the information currently provided by our production team indicates approximately 30–35 days for customized projects. MOQ also varies by product rather than following one fixed quantity for every PU film configuration. PU膜信息(1).txtTXT

Quality Control Based on Measurable Performance

For medical and skin-contact material projects, appearance alone is not enough to evaluate a film.

Our PU film quality control can include checks relating to appearance, dimensions, holding power, peeling strength, water resistance and moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR).

For example, one recent Certificate of Analysis for a 40 × 30 cm PU Film batch produced on July 29, 2026 recorded a peeling strength of 3.15 N/cm. The same batch showed no observed water leakage after testing at 500 mm hydrostatic pressure for 300 seconds, and the measured MVTR was 672.8 g/(m²·24h). COA-PU film-40x30cm.docDOC

These figures should not be interpreted as universal specifications for every PU film we manufacture. They represent the results of that particular batch and configuration. Performance requirements can vary according to film structure, adhesive system and customer specification.

The important point for buyers is that material development should be supported by defined testing criteria rather than relying only on visual inspection.

From PU Film to Finished Product Development

For many customers, purchasing PU film is only the first step.

The real question is whether the material can be converted into the structure, dimensions and finished product required for their market.

Because Wuhan Hangu works across both material manufacturing and downstream converting, our team can discuss a project from the PU film specification through coating, laminating, slitting, die cutting and subsequent product development.

This approach is particularly useful for customers developing private-label products or looking for a manufacturing partner capable of supporting both material and finished-product requirements.

Continuing to Expand Our PU Film Capabilities

The expansion of our PU film solutions is part of Wuhan Hangu's broader development in medical materials, wound care and skin protection products.

Rather than offering one fixed PU film specification for every customer, we are continuing to develop a more flexible manufacturing model based on material selection, customization, converting capability and measurable quality control.

For distributors, medical product companies, private-label brands and product developers evaluating a new PU film project, our team can discuss specifications based on the intended application and finished-product requirements.
